Don't you know that you so wrong man, man, you're wrong and here's why why chris and greg don't see eye to eye Like none of the time robin coven to six. I don't care what you think. How is lebron james the king when he's brewing and Hey everybody and welcome to this week's episode of you're wrong and here's why i'm chris horvath joined by the one the only the incomprehensible Greg crown gregory. How are you? I'm good, man. I'm good. It's been uh an interesting week and you know we've seen chaos in the sports world a lot of news stories all over the place in terms of nba nhl trades like crazy and then obviously We had the nba draft and then The world cups into the knockout phase. There's just a lot. There's a lot of moving parts Which is nice for june because it's typically a slower time Have we not recorded since the nba draft We have not we recorded the day before and then the nba draft. Ah I got you. I got you I yeah, I couldn't figure that one out because I feel like it was it was very recently but my Whole concept of time and space is very skewed So, I don't know. I believe you how well then you are. In fact, correct. We have much to talk about As always we have lucky rebel sportsbook open in front of us for all the lines props futures and all of that Let's start with the nba gregory How did you feel about the nba draft for the philadelphia 76ers game changer? Are they guaranteed to win the conference finals next year? I think they might just go and do the double like the knicks did nba cup and uh An nba title just back to back just all in one fell swoop with that And that's what you get from lebaron phylon correct, yep, that's how that works Look, I I liked it. I was I was happy with I was happy with the uh, the the draft pick wasn't Wasn't the guy I want like my dream pick going in but also I probably realistically would not have ever Expected he would be available when the sixers picked the 22 Wanted uh wanted dale swain wanted bennett sturtz. They went actually back to back. I think like 15 and 16 or 14 and 15 15 and 16, I think because sturtz ended up getting traded to oklahoma city because of course he did um But I was you know, i'm content with it There obviously is going to need to be some work done for the philadelphia 76ers, but free agency is here Yeah, a lot of move a lot of moving parts going on. So that's cool Yes Okay, I guess let's start with the big trade of the day The la clippers traded kawaii leonard to the toronto raptors for brandon ingram grady dick two unprotected first round picks in 2031 and 2033 A 2027 first round pick swap and two second round picks false I mean kawaii going home, uh his old home. Well, yeah The home that he couldn't wait to get out of yeah, uh, very interesting move But the raptors feel like a team that that will do stuff like this, right? They It's hard for them to sign premier free agents. It doesn't typically happen um, they have to draft well and uh, Then proceed to do well, uh in terms of like trades and stuff like that this is something that you're pairing him with, uh, you know, uh, An interesting group there that wasn't like great name for name for raptors. Uh, emmanuel quickly Uh grady dick, um, not traded. Damn. Uh, scotty barns, obviously It's probably the extent of where i'm gonna get to r.j. Barrett. That's colin murray boils. I did forget about r.j kobe walter Uh, mama kameshvili The client is player option Man I watched that team a lot last year too. I feel like I should have gotten more than that Yeah, but here we are. I they're not exactly world beaters, but you know in an eastern conference you add a guy like And I know like you had a guy like kawaii leonard that may change things now Obviously, it's not the same kawaii that you sent to la or yeah la a few years ago um, but it's it's certainly It's certainly a difference maker, uh, if he can stay healthy and be on the court So why not take a swing? You know what I mean? It's not like you were doing much with the the guys you you sent away for him. So it is what it is ride it out Yeah, I mean he really had statistically one of the best seasons of his career last year after 27.9 playing in 65 regular season games Just his second season of 60 or more since his time in toronto. So yeah, I mean That's pretty good. And it this move has already resulted in the raptors locking in one Major notable free agent acquisition, correct? Is it lebron james? the it was announced today that the toronto raptors Will agree to a one-day contract with kyle lowry so he can retire a raptor Oh, well, I mean that's you want to talk about yeah, maybe just stay a year on the bench kyle Like just just hang out a little bit longer now Uh, no, that's that's good. He may end up back on the bench, but just in a different role this time Yeah No, that's pretty cool great career Yeah, I mean kyle kyle's a raptor. I mean it's you know Yeah, yeah You always kind of hate when people leave your team to go sign a one day one day contract with somebody else and retire But kyle's a raptor. Yeah, I want a title there like what are you gonna do? Yeah, what are you gonna do indeed? Let's see. What is this done for the raptors at lucky rebel? They now have the eighth best odds to win the nba championship next year the Third best odds fourth best odds in the eastern conference. I would have guessed That they would have gone up a little bit higher just to capitalize on the excitement Yeah, I i'm not i'm actually a little bit surprised by that to be honest with you I feel like I feel like that would have jumped just because Again, we saw what the eastern conference looked like and obviously there was the celtics were not the true celtics last year the pacers were not the true pacers, but Um, very interesting very very interesting that it wasn't like a much more massive jump uh from that perspective, but I guess you know, you have to look at it from a an entire league perspective that may be where the Where the drawback is because I don't think that raptors team is is doing Nearly enough to at least in their current state to uh, you know compete for the finals By the way the blatant disrespect for this year's number one seed in the eastern conference detroit pistons the fifth best odds That lucky rebel to win the nba championship That's just wild man. I know I know the rumor is that That they've pissed off jalen durin And he's looking to go to sacramento or potentially, uh the the lakers But they pissed him off They pissed him off I think his playoff performance pissed them off well well, that's probably true as well, but you know, the nba is one of those difficult things where it's like if You might as well pay the guy if you're not going to be significantly under the salary cap by losing him Yeah, that's a good point That was the whole tobias harris thing in philadelphia for all the hate that toby got in philly You know with how that was structured when they signed him like they would have gained nothing By moving on from him they would have they still would have been over the cap So like what's the purpose you might as well if if the team's willing to spend money let them spend money Yeah, you're not wrong Are you at all surprised that the celtics still have the best odds in the east at lucky rebel to win the championship next year Because I feel like we're all waiting for the jalen brown shoe to drop Yeah, uh, I I can't say i'm that surprised I think that people value even though what we watched last year was Uh, jalen brown lead that team. Um, I think people value jason tatum's worth on that team more than jalen brown's which Whatever, you can critique it all you want. You can get analytical. He would not appreciate that um, but like yeah, I guess i'm not Super surprised i'm sure it'll my thought is that it'll change when the actual shoe does drop but it's uh, We'll see, uh, you know There's a thing in me that says like there's a chance that this could be potentially reconciled And I won't believe that it's over until it's it's actually over I mean sure we've we've seen that happen numerous times going back all the way back to kobe demanding a trade from the lakers but I don't know. This feels tough. Jalen brown feels stubborn. I think he feels disrespected uh, and I I think he is in a point where he doesn't want to be viewed as a second fiddle to jason tatum anymore after what he Showed last season. Yeah, I I completely agree with that, too I think that there's a certain mentality when like you're not getting the credit for what you did for what? 85 percent of the season that he played without tatum and essentially Carried that not carried that team But was a major reason why they had the playoff seating that they did why they were uh, they didn't just fall off the cliff like Say the pacers did when they lost their their 1-1 player, uh to an achilles injury. So it's like You know I I could see I could see his point clearly, uh in this situation where it's like hey guys Like we would have been kind of nowhere. Uh, if I didn't actually like Play as well as I did. So Yeah, I I I can definitely see why there would be a feeling of disrespect from that perspective Yeah, portland has been a team that has been attached to him. The hawks have been attached to him portland made their move though They went got joe moran from memphis and a deal that involved jeremy grant going to uh, Going well going to memphis how do you how do you feel about jaw in portland because it's If my math is correct they now have jaw and dame and scoot and drew That's a lot of point guards. It's a lot of guys handling the ball. Uh a lot of guys Uh, I was interesting to see like what the return was for him. Um, because it felt underwhelming Um, well, and he was the most available player in the nba in the trade. Sure Yeah, no, I I I I get that part of it but like you just saw multiple guys from that he played with on that team and he's supposedly like the Premier player from there go for what desmond bayne was multiple first round picks. Uh, I believe it was five. Yeah triple j uh was multiple first round picks I believe like you know, so I was I was definitely uh, I was definitely a little bit like stunned that that is that's kind of where uh, the the the price had fallen for jaw and I guess you know, obviously the off the court stuff certainly matters and the health also matters and Both have certainly been questionable during his tenure in memphis. But yeah, I don't I don't necessarily know the fit uh in portland and maybe there's ensuing moves and things like that that may change their roster construction, but I mean, I I guess it can't I guess it can't hurt right? I'm sure dame can't play a million minutes anymore, uh, you know being what? 37 at this point coming off an achilles like But it does feel like drew shouldn't be a bench player Oh, I agree with that. I agree with that completely And I don't know how he should be on the floor It makes you wonder is he part of the deal that maybe goes and tries to get like a jalen brown Could be certainly could be Reunite a little reuniting. Um, exactly. Yeah, I I think boston would would certainly take him back Uh, I don't know why you wouldn't No You go drew and derrick white in that backcourt again And you got all of a sudden you have a lockdown backcourt, which perhaps you didn't have with uh, peyton pritchard playing No, really, you think so? Look i'm not insulting peyton pritchard pritchard I mean he had his his share of 40 point games like he gets hot and he plays great But maybe not the best defensive player in the nba. Yeah. No, I I I I I I jest a tiny bit. He certainly had Uh a perfectly fine season on that celtics team and but it's you are correct the defensive side of the ball leaves A tad to be desired and that would certainly shift the way they can play defensively if they were to link D white and and drew back up again And I I don't think boston would say like would be unhappy to to do that No, I do wonder what what else would be necessary though? Because drew is not the top piece in a trade for a guy like jalen brown at this point I don't know. It'd be interesting to see what that looks like because they say denny's unavailable Is it clinging do they have to deal clinging to boston Do they have to deal clinging to boston? I think you might I think you may have to Like from even from like a salary perspective. I don't know where the what the lineup is there, too And i'm sure drew makes decent money uh, but I know jalen makes a lot of money, so It would certainly it would certainly be uh, uh, certainly be interesting to try to work something like that out not including denny Boy, would donathan clinging be hateable in boston? Yeah, oh, yeah, i'd be more than happy to I'm looking to see how this can work right now. All right. Jalen brown. Oh boy 57 million dollars Going to the trailblazers drew. Okay. Drew's drew's a 35. So that's not true Actually very you make this trade happen very easily drew and shayden Basically is exactly jalen brown salary Okay, throw in a picker two here and then uh, yeah I mean and sharp you could talk yourself into Like shayden sharp if shayden sharp went to a bad team He could have a couple of seasons where he he was like a 25 four and four guy or something like that He's gonna score the ball. It's just I don't know how effectively he scores the ball Yeah, no, I agree with that. There's definitely uh, there's definitely some some questions there but he is a guy that I mean he showed it obviously in college and he's had his moments in portland like he he can score so Right there like it isn't a guy that necessarily needs to have a shot created for him, which is something that I think a lot of what boston has currently Is guys that need to have that shot created and it was created by the likes of of? Jalen brown jason tatum like that kind of thing. I don't necessarily know if you have to require that now How efficient like you mentioned is that is that shot making uh when you create that shot different story, but you never know yeah, so Sharp and holiday for brown works straight up. You can also if you include clingin or say Uh hang hansen it also still works so there are definitely pathways to make this deal work from I tell you You know who is a celtics kind of player to me, you know who I think That joe mizola would love is tamani kamara He just defense threes he feels like he would be a really fun Small forward for that team Threes is what got me in trouble this this this post season. So if you have adding more shootings probably beneficial If I think I think boston would have a hard time saying no if the deal was drew kamara and clingin or even even yang hansen Yeah, I agree and picked of course. Oh, yeah But no, I I think that'd be I think that'd be a perfectly fine deal Get it. Get it on the horn chris. Call brad uh Brad we know you're listening. Just give us credit for the trade. How about the celtics losing out on the honest trade? Because they didn't want to include hugo gonzalez and baylor shireman it's It's a decision. It's certainly a decision. I mean not one that I would have made, uh personally, but uh, yeah, I mean I guess you have to stand your ground and not and not uh and not lose those key pieces that helped you blow a 3-1 lead Yeah, it's like hey, man, we really like yannis, but we don't want to give up jordan walsh Yeah I I don't know. That's it is a little bit of a baffling one to be perfectly honest. I don't know why Uh, I don't know why you you like I know it's not again. It's not like 26 year old yana. So there's a difference but like It it it seems like a decision to make where you can try to maximize the final like Prime years or whatever's left in the yannis tank with a now hopefully fully healthy tatum like Let's not let's not mess around here. Let's go try to win another title We can fill the bench out other ways like this isn't this isn't that crazy? No, and tatum could finally stop playing the four Yeah, exactly Which I think both he and the celtics would like so would have been look obviously not going to happen the I will say like yannis in boston with tatum scares me a hell of a lot more than him in miami with bam Because I think that fit is abysmal Yeah, I think well and plus everything around him is it's it's not exactly what you would call ideal That's really You're not counting on tim hardaway jr. And simone fontechio to have big years uh You know No, no, i'm not Andrew wiggins actually re-signed. Uh, he was one of a couple of players that Did his team a solid this uh this past week? he uh Instead of opting into that 30 million dollar player option. He re-signed a three-year deal worth 64 million So he gets a little more stability and lowers that cap number Yeah, i'll take that. Uh, if you know guys are cutting deals all of a sudden you see you see, uh, Jalen brunson help his team win a title by taking a lower number Everybody wants to be a good guy now well, I think that's uh, I want to I want that extra 30 million guaranteed kind of deal for for wigs, but Case or else or I suppose also maybe the the biggest shock in a vacuum Is draymond green turning down his 20 and a half whatever it was 25 million dollar player extension And a move to facilitate the acquisition of say lebron james and anthony davis It would certainly be an interesting team Uh, I mean they talk about old head central, uh up in up in golden state Uh, but i'm here for it. I'll be honest. I think that that would be Figure out a way to get kd from the rockets now Let's just build the oldest team possible of old former like super super superstars who still play Really really well, um for the most part, uh outside of maybe one or two of those guys i'm i'm fully in on this I'd i'd love to see this actually be where this ends up. It'd be hilarious So This is interesting Now that I think about this roster construction And look, it's obviously worth pointing out. Lebron. James has said he will be back for a 24th season in the nba But it won't be with the lakers He's going to take his time making his decision. Everyone expects it to be golden state or cleveland probably golden state If if golden state does manage to go get lebron And he you know, like he said not a financial decision for lebron in this one He's going to take a lot less money in this deal And they go and they manage to get anthony davis, even though the wizards are saying he's not available um Who doesn't start? Because all of a sudden I see anthony davis chris saps porzingis draymond green lebron james Well, yeah I think you do. I think that's what you do or or you're gonna or is it porzingis? I it's either one of those two or you platoon guys because Obviously the biggest concern with so many of those guys is is health right every single one of them except for maybe draymond uh and lebron obviously are uh, Injury prone so really chris dives and anthony davis are the two guys that i'm thinking of staff And well, I mean, I know we're not talking about backwards after sure Um, but I think I think you could potentially platoon Starting lineups on a night in a night out basis and then in the playoffs have to kind of make a real decision I do think it would be potentially draymond because he is the biggest drawback in terms of like offensive uh You know output and things like that of that group, but uh, I would certainly be interested. Uh in in, you know Seeing what that lineup could even do. Uh in in today's nba, you know By the way, they also just took yaxel lendeborg with the number 11 pick in the draft. They also have al horford back as well, so wow Yeah, it's Sure, it's stuff like I guess yaxel can play the three. I mean basically he played the three at michigan even though he's really a four because of merez johnson and ademara So oh boy or Jimmy obviously would have to can I just say this lineup is cleaner if they don't trade jimmy and they don't trade jimmy for anthony davis And you know, I know jimmy's gonna miss at least until the all-star break But the lineup feels cleaner to me if they don't trade jimmy because then you go You go curry jimmy, butler lebron at the three poor zingas Or uh draymond and poor zingas It's just It feels a lot cleaner than draymond to the bench pushing lendeborg farther down with anthony davis on the team now obviously anthony davis There's an argument to be made that he would be the best player on the team if he were to be traded there So there's that yeah, but I I don't know and lebron going lebron goes back from the he has to be a three He can't be a four anymore with everybody up front I don't know. It's an interesting team A lot of guys who want the ball though No a ton a ton that almost need the ball Because you know First of all stef might have the most efficient season of his career at like 39 It playing with draymond playing with lebron and you know butler if butler is still there not having to be the primary ball handler but yeah worry about these other guys, I It's gonna be It's gonna be an interesting situation. I will say I really hope it happens Well lebron's gonna happen I think it's just a matter of does ad happen now There is also this jimmy butler story out there today That his best friend is tied to some of the Uh, like the poly market stuff Great, that's great. And that's fun. There might be some issues there uh, maybe there was some information given maybe You know, we we saw malik beasley arrested this week. Uh, and by the way How dumb are malik beasley and ed davis? Not the smartest Like how dumb are they and how about the fact? I don't know if you saw the the conversations between the two of them But I did not Ed davis is talking to to beasley And beasley said he had to try and find two thousand dollars He has made 58 million dollars over his career I had to try and scrape up two grand that feels almost almost impossible Apparently has Millions and into the tens of millions of dollars in gambling losses Well that was he brendan's Yeah, he must be uh, I once sold a cell phone to uh ed davis hilariously enough Oh, oh back when How did that happen years? He was a customer at a place I used to work at No, you don't have you don't have to mention the name of the place. Although we have many times but Where where was that? Where was that location? Was that in? No, it was in center city philadelphia. They were whoever he was playing for at the time Yeah, who whoever he was playing for at the time must have been playing the sixers. Uh Him kurt thomas was another one that I sold a cell phone to is very odd very very random I guess when you're like because I worked downtown it was very Like, you know teams would be in town and things like that. Yeah, very very very weird random connection to To ed davis for some reason Yes, like ed davis is just In town for a game and he's like, let me go. Let me go pick up a burner I guess yeah, what are you gonna do? Well You you sold it to him. So That's true. I I have to feel like i'd fall outside of any sort of statute of limitations for anything involved I think you're going down for this greg quite frankly and I feel obligated to turn this conversation over to the fbi Uh, I got nothing I got nothing to hide Oh, man, that's that's a weird coincidence Yeah, uh, how about you you sell anything? Was that the only professional athlete? uh him kurt thomas uh jerry matthews Senior came in once He's just kind of hanging out. He let people try on his rings, which was cool Yeah, for some reason was he was wearing his world series ring for when they won and then the nl champion series Championship brings the next day or for the next year when they lost Um trying to think what other ones if anybody else ever actually walked in there None that I can think of and in oregon. I was so like kind of remote that it was more Uh, who's the guy? Who's the head coach of the women's team dana altman? Is that the name? um Yeah, i'm pretty confident. I i'm not pretty confident. I know uh that I sold I I worked with him, uh when I was out in in Uh duck country. So other than that, nothing nothing too too crazy Yeah for us, obviously I was in king of pressure for a while and uh, yeah Evan turner was in all the time. I was gonna say i'm sure you dealt with i'm sure that that just seems like a hub for You know people just come there to come there Well, yeah, I mean well that that was the big problem working in that location Um this a million years ago. I worked in a game stop in king of pressure for the listeners and The problem with working at a game stop in a mall Is that people stop in because they're in the mall? When you work at a game stop in another location They stop in because they want to purchase something from that game stop So it's just a very it's just a very different. It's very different Interaction with customers who are basically at the mall They're basically just they're killing time 95 of the time versus actually walking into the store because they wanted to go there Yeah, I could see that I could certainly see that But yeah et et was in a lot Evan turner was actually there the first day that I worked which was a grand theft auto release fun Yeah, and uh, he was just in line and just like talking to people for the midnight release By the way, they should have like the fact that they had me working a midnight release for a big game The first day was bananas because I didn't know Also was that was it four or was it five? It had to be four. I think okay I was gonna say has it been that long since between five and six, uh, the impending six release I mean 13 years maybe gta4. When did four come out? I think no, it couldn't have been four. It had to be five Because four was oh eight Yeah, that's crazy. That's crazy that it's been five september. Yeah, september 17th 2013 for the playstation 3 wow Wow, yeah, that's nuts Yeah, that was that was literally day one. They're like, oh yeah, just come in for this crazy fucking thing. Oh, yeah, cool Let me just start on this day The obvious the obvious famous story that i've told a million times is that I uh Still I sold and this was days later, by the way I michael carter williams and nerland snowell came in and I sold nerland's a copy of gta5 That did not have the disc in it. Well, hey, what are you gonna do? mix-ups happen Yeah, I was like I was just like hey Nerland snowell and I didn't it didn't occur to me that he brought because you know, everybody always brings the the floor box to the to the register Of course I told him that instead of uh one that was you know sealed and had a game in it Then it was super it was super uncomfortable When he came back in like two days later and uh Was like yeah, I bought this and there was no game in it And we had to I had to count every copy of Disc that we had in the store for gta to to show that we were plus one As if nerland snowell was going to try and scam us out of a grand theft auto disc Yeah, I mean well listen You never know. You never know. I mean obviously we just talked about who knows He's just trying to try to stay stay 50 in the in the uh red Black and I don't know what I don't know. I don't know which is positive or negative in those you want to stay in the black That's why that's what black friday is for historically the day that businesses go into the positives for the year That makes sense We all learned something today and I think that's all you can certainly do it really is The golden state warriors the sixth best odds to win the nba championship at lucky rebel, by the way, greg The question is does that jump if lebron and all these different things happen, I think it has to right I think it has to move on how much of that jump is already built in Because they're not the six best team in basketball Well, that's definitely true uh, man, uh Yeah, I I mean it would certainly I think I think it would still jump a tiny bit especially if they pull off the ad piece of it, too That makes that team so much more interesting like lebron and steph uniting at the end of their career is unobjectively like hilarious Um, yeah, and it's gonna be beautiful basketball Oh, it's gonna be awesome. Uh, because obviously like I know we said what lebron's going and you said his 24th year That's what he confirmed today and like he's still averaged insane numbers For uh, like, you know, just a regular player Last year not uh, not just a you know, 40 plus year old guy uh, that was obviously also astronomical so like factoring that in and adding that into Steph who also is is still really good. Uh when healthy like it's it's an it's an interesting team I'm, i'm very I really hope all of this stuff kind of comes to fruition because i'd be I'd be very intrigued to watch that Uh that that team way more than I watched the current iteration, uh of the golden state warriors, so I'll take it. Yeah Lebron averaged 20.9 points 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists last year So good numbers not lebron numbers, but still very good numbers as a 52 year old I believe and I mean Actually, I think those the percentages probably jump Next year if he goes to golden state playing alongside stefan and those other players because That that lakers team was just kind of a disaster and to lebron's credit He did go and play off the ball and completely change his game without complaining about it Yeah, that is uh One of the I guess maybe like he almost realizes that like while i'm not the focal point of all of this You know it is kind of thing And honestly, it might be nice to not be the focal point that's at this point. Yeah I think you know, I don't think he could Physically, I mean, I know lebron obviously puts a lot into Off-season regiments and this and that like I do think I do think at a certain point It's just the breakdown is sort of inevitable, right? We've seen him miss more and more games over the course of the past few years, uh with that like with health, uh, Injury issues and you know, uh, you just Playing a little bit being a little bit less involved. Uh On the offensive side of the ball. I think it can go a long way for sure Man, new york just keeps winning and winning In the wnba new york holds off the aces to become the first franchise with multiple commissioners cup championships Oh, wow, look at that. Just just give them all the titles. It's clean sweep for new york in terms of professional basketball titles what can't new york do other than You know what? i'm gonna leave that alone gregory Gonna leave that alone. How you feeling about the world cup? It's been fun, man. I mean obviously yesterday just an insane first day of the knockout rounds uh, obviously two penalty two two penalty shootouts and both end with the team that probably Wouldn't have won the actual game itself taking home the victories and advancing like that's absolutely wild, uh, you see larger contenders like germany and um Uh, the netherlands go out Yeah, like it it's it's been pretty crazy so far like I don't I don't really know I don't think there's a lot of negative you can say about it. You know, like If there's only you can only kind of continue hopefully can continue to go up from here Uh today has been a little bit more, uh chalky, I guess is the best way to put it Even though even though to be honest norway wasn't that heavy. I don't even know if they were that Big of favorites we talked about a little bit on betters delight. Um I think they were just really slightly favorites in their game against ivory coast and um, you know, obviously france just pure pure domination of sweden sweden who more than likely probably shouldn't have even been in the tournament if it wasn't for a very late goal against Against poland in the the final, you know, uh the final game to to claim those last spots. Um, but they were Not a great team going in and and it kind of all bore out today in that matchup And then I think we're in a weather delay at the moment for the the final game of the evening, which is the mexico Uh ecuador game which should be a lot of fun. So i'm enjoying it i've watched almost every game that I that has has gone on so Uh a little bit too late of a night for for some of these but you know, it is it is it's nice It is nice to know though that like you kind of know it's like 90 minutes. Okay. All right It's an hour and 20 minutes And then there's like 15 minutes for a shootout. All right, cool And then it's kind of just like over and it starts on time, which is so great. Yeah It's not although we really we really do have to start building the shootouts into the regular time at this point because they're becoming such a such commonality Yeah, no, uh We was talking with some people last night. Uh while that game was going on and just like uh the ideas that get thrown around are very funny like oh they should do golden goal where they remove people from Uh the field like one at a time at certain time intervals, it's like what What does this the nhl? We're gonna get to three on 3v3 soccer. That seems Ridiculous. Yeah I don't think experimentation is the way to go in the world. No, I agree with that and I think the pks is just kind of like The way it has to be decided at a certain point like I mean, it's very obvious that Paraguay and I mean paraguay kind of played this way the whole game but and uh, oh my god, who the heck beat? um the netherlands last night well, regardless They they kind of oh morocco they they kind of pack it in a little bit defensively don't allow a ton of great chances and You know when those chances do come up Like they they they tend to snuff them out and honestly morocco, uh, really should have won in the extra time period It was if it wasn't for an unbelievable save from the netherlands goalie and in a essentially a one-on-zero situation That game was over well before the penalty shootout even happens. So uh, I mean it was it was it's been phenomenal it's really has been and the drama in the pks is just so like I can remember back to I believe it was france Uh Italy maybe maybe it was that world cup that ended in a uh in a shootout and like I can remember like france missing, uh, the the Eventually like essentially the losing shot of the the penalty kick and there's just so much pressure and like can guys deliver on that stage like it's it's it's really it really is intense and like Zero rooting interest in these games in terms of right like the teams that i'm cheering for uh, I can't imagine if team usa finds themself in in one of those situations how Sort of nerve-wracking that that that can become so i'd prefer to stay out of that for for at least a little bit Yeah, I was uh listening to the absolutely spectacular uh after the whistle podcast that is hosted by Rebecca low and brendan hunt brendan hunt is coach beard on ted lasso and amazing podcast And I think rebecca said that there have been 24 There have been 24 goals scored in the tournament after the 90 minute mark of a game That's why that's yeah, that's crazy. That's absolutely crazy And that doesn't count obviously, you know penalty penalty shootouts, but absolutely wild. Um, now I was just gonna say sorry we're talking about the pks But like obviously the canada game winner the brazil game winner against japan like every every game outside of really I guess the france The france game so far in terms of the knockout stage has absolutely delivered so like I obviously the expansion to 32 teams. There was always questions from a group standpoint. There wasn't that many crazy scores um, but the knockout stage so far and knock on wood has Delivered pretty much, uh some classics right off the bat game in game out. So yeah, I I don't hate it. I the late the late game drama has has certainly been there And i'm just saying it like i've been saying it the whole time let's go to 60 let's go to 60 every group gets five teams Why not? You got to you got to Could you got to push the games up a little bit more? I don't know if we can do maybe it's got to be a game every five days or something instead of a game Sometimes like every week and a half for some of these. Yeah But you got to push. Yeah, and you got to truncate that Maybe you have a couple more games that are being played at the same time I know they like to avoid that whenever possible But so many good players are not playing in the world cup this year. So many good teams are not playing in the world cup This is I whatever my only problem Is the pricing I was watching one of my favorite youtube channels today and uh gentlemen went to the I believe it was the algeria jordan game and The price for a hospitality ticket was two thousand dollars Seems seems aggressive for algeria and jordan So, you know, hey listen They got fans to gouge too chris. I don't know what to tell you I look nothing against either one of those countries, but we're not talking about one of the traditional world cup powerhouse teams there You know, it's just the the casual fan has been so outpriced to these world cups. It's crazy But it's been proven that people will pay it so I don't think we're going back I don't think so either, uh, which stinks It does stink. Let's get your picks for tomorrow's games england in the congo England minus 3 45 at lucky rebel congo plus 1100 the draw plus 40 40 England does not look as sharp as you would kind of expect them to be To be um, obviously they had they had one pretty good win and other than that it was sort of just kind of like uh, we're here we're england we're expected to advance those kind of things so like I do I do get a little bit concerned in terms of What that what that looks like? Uh like for them Moving forward in this I I kind of like the idea of the draw like if congo can figure out Uh how to like sort of just again pack it in like some of these other teams and and and just keep Keep the good chances out of there. I do think there's a very realistic, uh opportunity for them To see themselves in extra time. I kind of like the draw there Yeah, what's this what's the stat harry kane has 10 more games to basically Have the highest scoring season in like a century or something like something stupid like that. That's kind of nuts This cane guy's pretty good solid you know pretty solid they're just they're just so loaded and It just feels like somebody is going to figure something out at some point versus congo I I think I don't know I get where you're coming from but I I think it's this one might be england We've got belgium the favorite at lucky rebel plus 110 taking on senegal plus 260 the draw plus 235 and this is the tightest game odds wise It makes sense. I think belgium the the biggest storyline kind of being talked about is that the belgium team is sort of at the very very tail end of what you would consider their like golden generation, um like you don't have uh, the the big belgium superstars and the ones that are still kind of there are uh, Certainly on the the back nine of their competitive soccer careers So like that that makes this game very interesting and senegal is a team that i'm pretty sure they won afcon like they're They're they're a very good squad, right? They're not they're not exactly some a team to be taken lightly Um, but actually like as much as the draw is enticing here I I kind of think taking a little bit of a leap on on senegal could be could be really interesting That's not just because if the usa beats bosnia Uh, this is the the winner they play the winner of this game. I do think that senegal is legitimately very good team That can compete with this belgian team that I don't necessarily know if they have a a really distinct identity They haven't like blown me out of the water in terms of what they've done so far in this tournament Um, so yeah, I think i'd ride with that Yeah, de broglie is 35 lokaku is 33 Trussard is 31 now I will say belgium have one of the best young players in the world who is not at the world cup in nason Dakat a defensive midfielder Unbelievable player who's going to be on that team for a very long time but yeah, this is Losing de broglie is going to be I mean that completely changes that team Oh, yeah, it's a it's a it's completely completely different I I don't he's been such a staple for them for the better part of what 15 years if not longer like it's Yeah, it'll be it'll be a very tough person to replace uh from that perspective Good young goalie too and mike pender. So they're gonna be they're belgium belgian's gonna be fine. It's the point that i'm i'm making there final game tomorrow usa usa versus bosnia and herzegovina Usa is minus 275 at lucky rebel bosnia and herzegovina plus 725 the draw plus 400 Man uh How much do you trust this team I don't necessarily know but I mean because I mean obviously You know, you dominate the first game you play really well in game two as well. And it's like Okay a third game. You're playing a lot of Essentially a number of guys that really won't see the field in games that matter So you take that with a green it is where it is. Yeah Yeah, you take that with a little bit of a grain of salt Um, I do think this team has a little bit of magic in them. I I just think that you know We were so hyped the last time they were in the world cup and they were such a young Such a young team in terms of the guys who are now sort of maturing into um where they are now that it's kind of hard to be like You know, they're just you know This is the same old same old in terms of american soccer and I don't necessarily feel that way I feel like they have guys who can actually really create and really allow them to make the different moves that they need in the game and change their tactics and Uh, they play a different style that I think we're used to seeing because of the the guys that they have uh, so I really do I really do think that like this is a team that I don't necessarily think they can go like Unbelievably deep if they face like a spain, for example, or if they face Uh, one of those other really premier premier countries But I think a game against bosnia is a game that you can win. You just have to play Play smart and and make the right decisions. And if you do so it should be a game that you can get through um, and hopefully not have to sweat it out like some of these other teams have Yeah, and I feel like some of this year is also just playing and solidifying yourself for what you're going to look like in 2032 because unlike belgium this is not a team with Many old players at all. They have two players over 30. Neither of them is particularly important to the team No disrespect to either You know, you look at mckinney and pulisic both 27 Uh, chris richards is 26 Like all your flow balagan's 24 eventually, you're gonna have the uh Philadelphia union wonder kid caben sullivan knocking on the door What's he like five six right now? And I think he's already got sold sold to man city but And can't go over until he turns his 18 but They're gonna be All the all their best players are still gonna be in their prime in 2030 yeah, so this is For whatever happens this year the experience is equally valuable. Oh 100 100 100 it's it's like the nba you got to take your licks a little bit and hopefully that experience builds Uh builds enough in in you to to be able to take that next step. Uh, the next opportunity that's given so You know, I I I do I I do think the bosnia game is a very winnable game. I think it's something for sure Yeah that they can definitely do and then you just kind of play it by year from from there Like I don't know I don't know. I don't know what the next the next steps are, uh after that, but you know, take it game by game Go out play your best win this one and then uh, and then we see Let's see If the u.s were to win this one Well, coincidentally gregory, uh, it would likely be belgium Yeah, yeah and I was saying yesterday when we were talking about it a little bit on um, uh on betters the light again like the last time, uh, the u.s Was in a world cup game against belgium Uh, I was sitting in my car watching it on a lunch break. Uh when I lived in oregon, it was in albany oregon In a parking lot of I forget where exactly but I was in the parking lot just watching the game and I forget belgium ended up scoring and Uh very late, uh in that contest and it was kind of just all over and I remember being very mad going back into work being like we had a chance we had a chance and and we kind of threw it away and it was You know, you you just hope that like maybe the revenge is a little bit of a factor now. It was also what uh At this point I moved home 11 years ago. So it was probably in the 11 to 12 years ago range So it's been a while but uh, you know, you look you look for a little bit of revenge Yeah, and then Consider consider that just a great outcome because the prob the road probably ends there They would if they were to beat belgium They would likely be playing the winner of what should not be around a 16 match gregory Looks like that would be portugal and spain Whew Yeah Uh, listen, hey, we drew with portugal. Uh, the last the last time we played them in a world cup Uh, I can't remember the time we played spain, uh during my lifetime in a world cup My guess is if we if we have it hasn't gone. Well, uh Yeah that that is probably where the road. Um where the road would end for them but Getting that far you're talking about you beat belgium in the round of 16 Which means you make the quarterfinals quarterfinals experience. I mean I'll take that all day. I'll take it all day. Uh For this team and then just a big sort of step up for us soccer in that case It just feels like such a waste to have portugal and spain playing in the round of 16 Yeah, but portugal kind of sneaky stinks like that, you know, they shouldn't well They should just because they want to play ronaldo 90 minutes Yeah, exactly that that's the precise that's the precise reason is they that they It's frustrating because you you kind of have to Or your sort of hand is forced to um, which is which is frustrating and annoying. Um from if I was a portugal fan Uh, because he's clearly not Listen, um all for him scoring goals against uzbekistan. That's great uh, but it's it's just a situation where like you gotta you gotta know when like are you hurting or helping hurting or helping and it feels much more like a uh, Like a hurting situation than anything else. So it kind of stinks He doesn't have the capability of thinking that way I don't believe and I don't think if you're that good and you push yourself that hard you simply can I think you have To believe you're the best player in the world at every second of the day To to have the curry's head But he is definitely hurting himself and by the way if The us were to get past the winner of spain portugal They would then get france Yeah, then then the road's really over I think I think the road's over with uh, spain as well It certainly is. Uh, but they yeah, the the french team is just they're just so good man Like you watched them in that game today and like how many chances did they have? in and going in and going out of Of that first, I mean the first half alone I think they had 11 shots and like four were on target and there was like 33 minutes into the game Like it was they can just create and create and create opportunities uh offensively that like You know a team like team usa just I don't think I don't think they can defend well enough against that and I think you'll see um I think you'll see that that sort of same situation in uh, From from that spain game as well, which is a bummer but it kind of is what it is fun subplot in the next round Like it would be the round of eight, but all these teams have qualified for 16 already Assuming france beats paraguay and morocco beats canada, which I think we would assume both happen We then have ayub bawadi Going up and playing against france after he chose to play for morocco instead of france Yeah, that's that's a very interesting subplot Because you know, he wouldn't play for france despite the fact that he's maybe the best under 19 player in the world sometimes sometimes man, you just have You just have a glut of riches, uh, essentially that fall That fall into this and it's uh, you know That's just kind of that's just kind of how it works and france is in one of those sort of eras right now you know, like there's there's certain time periods with all of these teams like you talk about like italy italy hasn't mattered in An insane amount of time from an international level. I even I think they They win the euro sometime recently. I I can't fully remember but like, you know growing up Italy was like they won the world cup They were a relatively dominant team and now you haven't even seen them in the world cup in three iterations of it so it's like Yeah, you just you just kind of run through like a certain generation and you can honestly maybe even chalk this iteration of french football up to the the success and the popularity of a guy like thierry henry he was the french superstar won a world cup with france like That that whole team him zidane like all those guys that sort of leading up to this and you get all those young players or young young kids who were like Oh my gosh, like I we could eventually be these guys like yeah hundred percent um let's go try to be a soccer superstar and that is you know, uh, certainly certainly a position that you'd love to you'd love to be in um, and build off of and france has pretty much done that and You know, there's a reason why they're they're favorites, uh yet again to to win the to win the whole thing Last question I want to pose for you before we get out of here speaking of france Mbappe had another two goals today. He broke the record for the most world cup knockout goals in world cup knockout matches He is now within one of messi's overall world cup tournament scoring record If you gregory were the head odds maker at lucky rebel sports book Would you have what were the what would be the odds you had? On mbappe being the all-time leading world cup scorer by the time this tournament's over Because I think france will go further than argentina I'd say it'd probably be With the rate that he scores. I mean, but two again today. It's the second time. I think this tournament he's done two in a game Okay, I will tell you argentina's got a pretty easy path. They have cape verde Then they have the winner of australia and egypt. No disrespect to egypt, but you know argentina's better than those teams And then it's like switzerland or colombia on the other in the next game. So I think argentina probably gets to at least a But france probably gets to the the world cup championship the world cup title game. Yeah, I I'd say it's probably like I don't think I don't it's hard for me to put a plus number behind this. I agree Yeah, like I feel like it almost has to be a minus like or at least even money yeah, like maybe like maybe like minus 125 something in that range because Like I don't I don't see a situation where and like obviously I know that. Um What's his name? Uh, that's he's been Crazy in terms of his scoring prowess so far for argentina this this edition of the world cup like It's not like he's just showed up and been like, oh, yeah, I can I can i'll score one or two here We'll see what happens. Um He's certainly he's certainly been a lot a lot better than that. Um but I I do just think that it's it's situation where mbappe is so good he just keeps scoring and it's like I I I have to I have to kind of ride I have to kind of ride that train. Yeah, I think it is. I think it is like a minus 125 You maybe even minus 130. I don't think it was higher than that because there is the opportunity for messy to keep adding on to it, but I I it wouldn't shock me in the least if when we leave this tournament, he's the the all-time leading goal scorer with probably Three world cups left in his career. Uh, I think so. Yeah, that's a crazy one At least at least two depending on if he'd what be 39. Is he 27 or 29? I think he's I think I thought he's 27 Yeah, i'm, I want to confirm that for the listeners, but i'm pretty sure he was 19 He's 27 pretty sure he was. Yeah, I was gonna say I was pretty sure he was 19 when they when they won And then so at least at least two maybe three he's uh Maybe four if he's ronaldo Never know well, but then the fourth one won't really matter will it? Right Well if they play who's becca stand maybe well, the other reality of that is that if he were to play in four he could have the lead by such a Substantial number that isn't even going to matter at that point. Yeah, it wouldn't even be it wouldn't even be a question I don't know who would be able to to jump over that and and break that up that that feels nearly impossible Well good for him papi. That is going to be it for this week's episode if you're wrong, and here's why i'm chris torbidell for greg For greg current i'm chris overdell and uh, I my brain broke and i'm having a seizure. See you next week
